"Whose woods these are, I think I know.........." (Robert Frost)
Do you look? Do you see?
Do you wonder what might be....
Around the next corner, over the hill
What could be waiting, quiet and still...
I encountered this amazing creation of nature on a back country road in the middle of nowhere. I was struck at the time by the magic of it. I am still moved by the sight of this giant green man floating above me on the air.
Created by vines and the whimsical hand of Mother Nature, "The Green Man' silently watched my approach.
We stared at each other for some time, neither of us speaking. He leaned gently towards me, blowing slightly with the wind. He countenance was both benign and at the same time old and wise. I couldn't help but wonder what sights he must have been privileged to witness, floating above the hillsides, valleys and streams as gently as a butterfly floats on the air. A doe and her fawn slipping silently by? Or perhaps one of the forest people making their way quietly through the night? If only he could talk and tell his tales, what wonderful stories we might hear.
